With the sad hostage situation in Midland City and the many needs in our church, this morning Bro. Keith had a special prayer service during worship time today.
Mark 11:17 says the church is "a house of prayer" and James 5:16 says "the prayer of a righteous man availeth much." We know this is true and believe in God's power and are so thankful for the opportunity to talk to Him about our situations.

Entering the Promised Land of a new year
As you get ready to go into the Promised Land, remember the past. Learn from the good. Learn from the bad. Whether you are crossing into the Promised Land or crossing into a new year, look back and learn from your past. Use that wisdom to guide you from here.
The following notes on Deuteronomy 32 were chosen to go along with the sermon Brother Keith gave last Sunday. They are taken from Life Application Study Bible, NLT, copyright 2004 by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc., Carol Stream, IL.
Deuteronomy 32:1ff
"This song gives a brief history of Israel. It reminds the people of their mistakes, warns them to avoid repetition of those mistakes, and offers the hope that comes only in trusting God."
Deuteronomy 32:10, 11
"The Israelites had no excuse for abandoning God. He had shielded them like a kindly shepherd. He had guarded them like a person protects the pupil of his eye. He had been the encircling protector, like a mother eagle who protects her young. The Lord alone had led them. And he alone leads us. Let us remember to trust in him."
Deuteronomy 32:46, 47
"Moses urged the people to think about God's word and teach it to their children. The Bible can sit on your bookshelf and gather dust or you can make it a vital part of your life by regularly setting aside time to study it. When you discover the wisdom of God's message, you will want to apply it to your life and pass it on to your family and others. The Bible is not merely good reading - it's real help for real life."

A dog is going to bark...
Matthew 12:33-45
"The tree is known by its fruit" v.33-37
You don't have to teach a dog to bark or a cat to meow. It just comes naturally. The same should be true with Christians. Your works should be evidence of your faith. Who you are on the outside should reflect who you are on the inside. You're either producing good fruit or you're producing bad fruit. There's no in between. If you're going to be a saint, be a saint.
"The Sign of Jonah" v.38-42
Someone is here who is greater than Jonah. Someone is here who is greater than Solomon. If the people listened to Jonah and Solomon, how much more should we listen to Jesus?!! Think about the effort people put into things that really don't matter - driving 100 miles to a ballgame, working 12 hours a day for extra money, burning a vacation day just to go hunting - and then compare that to the effort we put into seeking Jesus. Does it even compare?
"Return of an Unclean Spirit" v.43-45
The example is given of a heart that someone sweeps clean like a sinner who tries to clean up his act on his own. Unless the Holy Spirit comes in to fill the space that has been swept clean, the dirt will come back worse than before. The demons will come back and will be harder to get rid of the next time. Giving in to sin becomes easier the more we do it. Therefore, if God deals with your heart, respond. Do not sit there and reject Him because rejecting Him will be easier next time then even easier the next time, until eventually you don't even notice when He tugs at your heart. Respond.

Grave Clothes
John 11:1-44, 12:1-11
Death is always emotional, just as we see in the story of Lazarus. Lazarus and his sisters Mary and Martha were good friends of Jesus. Just think of how you would feel in Jesus' situation. You get a phone call from your friends saying their brother is dying and needs your help. What would you do?
Jesus waited two days before going to see them. By the time he arrived, Lazarus was no longer sick; he was dead. They'd all seen Jesus heal the sick and thought he could heal Lazarus, too; but some of them thought that it was too late. Martha, however, had faith: 21 “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”
Standing in front of the tomb, Jesus prayed aloud.
41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”
Think of the reactions the people standing there would've had to "take up the stone." Think of the family's reaction today if someone wanted to dig up a family member's body.
43 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”
Can you imagine the looks on people's faces when Jesus said, "Lazarus, come out!"? Doubters jaws would've hit the dirt.
We picture Lazarus standing up and simply walking out, but that isn't exactly how it happened.
44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”
Take off the things that bind him, the grave clothes around his body. Is there anything in your life that is binding you today? Are you wrapped in grave clothes that you can't shake?
Notice that Jesus didn't tell Lazarus to take off the grave clothes himself. He tells the people to help Lazarus- "Take off the grave clothes and let him go." God has placed Christians in your life who will help you remove the grave clothes. If you are a Christian, then God is calling you to help remove the grave clothes of others.
Picture Lazarus bound hand and foot. Now that's the picture of a lost sinner! The Bible tells us that "the wages of sin is death." You are dead spiritually until you accept life through Jesus.
Once dead, now alive!! Once bound, now loosed!!
If you are spiritually dead today, the only hope you have is in Christ. If you are saved but aren't enjoying Jesus in your life, it's not because of Him or anyone else. You are bound by grave clothes, and only Jesus can give you the joyful life he has promised.
